The Repeater Council has recently updated its processes to make it easier to coordinate a repeater system and update system information when there’s a change in responsibility.
This section is now divided into three parts based on your specific needs. Each section includes detailed instructions to guide you through the process, whether you’re transferring coordination or updating trustee information.
To Coordinate a Repeater:
Collect the Five data points needed for the coordination form:
- Ownership (you or your club)
- Frequency (or band. You can enter a preferred frequency, or band segment, but at least enter the band)
- Location (in latitude/longitude, degrees, minutes, seconds) See hints on determining lat/long
- Height Above Average Terrain ( See HAAT worksheet and tips on HAAT ).
- Effective Radiated Power (See ERP Worksheet pdf ).
Once the data is collected (and double checked):
- Fill out the coordination form.
- Send it to the coordinator (See address on the form.)
- The coordinator will send you a list of available frequencies
- You select a frequency from the list, returning that choice to the coordinator.
- Coordinator sends coordination request to coordinators in all adjacent states. The adjacent state coordinators have 30 days to comment before coordination.
- If no objections from other coordinators, the coordinator sends you the confirmation of coordination.
Change or Update Trustee of Coordinated System:
This process covers two scenarios: changing the trustee of a coordinated repeater when the ownership/sponsorship remains the same, or simply updating contact information for the current trustee. When changing to a new trustee, you’ll need to provide meeting minutes from the sponsoring organization showing the approved motion and vote. The new trustee must agree to follow all Iowa Repeater Council guidelines and participate in annual recertification. If you’re only updating contact information (address, phone, email), the process is simpler—just complete the form with both your old and new information. For complete instructions, see the Change or Update of Trustee procedure.

Transfer of Coordination:
Use this process when transferring the coordination of an existing repeater to a different individual or organization. Both the current and new coordination holders must agree to the transfer, and the new holder must commit to following all Iowa Repeater Council policies and the annual recertification process. Important: This procedure applies only when there are no changes to the repeater’s location or technical parameters. If you’re changing the repeater’s location or technical specifications, you must submit a new coordination application instead. For detailed requirements, see the Transfer of Coordination procedure.
